Tiny Living NC Hands On Building Workshop

In Memory Of Marco

Tiny Living NC- is hosting the first annual hands-on building workshop from May 28th to May 3oth, 2021.  Chris Strathy of The Capable Carpenter leads the construction of a 6 x 8 micro shelter treehouse to honor and celebrate the life of our friend Marco.

Tiny Living NC Accepted The Honor

In October of 2020, we tragically lost TLNC member and friend Marco Aponte. Shortly before Marco’s passing he and his wife Heather purchased 10 acres of untouched land in Efland, NC. Marco and Heather’s dream is an off-grid retreat of tiny eco-cabins where people can come together to build alternative structures and unplug from the outside world. We have accepted the honor of building the very first structure that Marco was planning on building. We know he will be guiding our hands during the build during this remarkable weekend.

The host land/ camp area will have the following: several outhouses with composting toilets, several hand washing stations, a fire pit, and a common area with food prep and serving tables. A few easy-up tents will be available but the land is very shaded. Solar showers will be available for use.

Attendees are asked to bring work gloves, eye protection and hearing protection (disposable ear plugs will be available). Optional but encouraged are battery impact drivers and drills, and basic carpenters tools if owned (hammer, square, pencil, tape measure). Whether camping or not we ask that attendees bring their own water jugs, cups, bowls, plates, and utensils for meals. Camp chair ect.

There will be more details to follow regarding the meals and attendees will have a better idea of what to bring for the entire weekend. Prior to the event, we will be sending out a welcome packet to each attendee. Which will also have a projected daily itinerary, waivers of participation, tool, and supply list that will go into more detail.

While we fully intend on having the treehouse build completed by Sunday evening, please realize there will be circumstances that may be out of our control (attendance, weather, work pace ect) that may delay the build. All attendees will walk away with an arsenal of building knowledge and priceless memories. We can’t wait to honor Marco and finally be able to get together in person for this memorable event.
